We have an unfortunate habit of putting our
celebrities on pedestals – of grating them a status somewhat
higher than our own. We look to celebrities for all of the answers,
and as soon as they do something it becomes the vogue. Unfortunately
we grant our celebrities superhuman status, allowing them to
engage in behavior otherwise unaccepted by the mainstream. So,
why again do we care about celebrity cellulite?
We care about celebrity cellulite because
society allows them to maintain an image of perfection. And
we care about their flaws like cellulite for the same reasons
we relish in their messy and at times ugly and public divorces.
Their relationships, whether good or bad, public or private
are the focal point of countless sub-journalistic media outlets,
so why would their celebrated cellulite be any different.
As Americans we invite these celebrities into
our homes and into our lives. For most of us an encounter with
a celebrity is rare if it is to ever happen at all. Knowledge
of their celebrity cellulite makes us feel better bout ourselves.
To know that the star of the new big Hollywood blockbuster film
has cellulite pockets on the rears of her thighs makes us more
confident in our own flaws and it allows us to identify with
them to small degree. Truth be told who cares about celebrity
cellulite.
